How to get your business online
Time to set up some business email addresses. Your 1&1 account allows you to have loads of email addresses. We will set up just 2 for now. 1 which will be used by your store software to stay in contact with you and your customers and one for you to use while contacting suppliers etc. We will also set up a redirect to your regular email so you don't have to keep logging in to 1&1 web mail which isn't ideal.
Now of course you don't have to do it my way. You don't have to do the redirect, you could use 1&1 web mail. I just find it more convenient when everything comes to 1 mail box. I will show you how to do it and you just follow the parts you want to.
I recommend setting up admin@yoursite.whatever and yourfirstname@yoursite.whatever.
Log in to your 1&1 control panel. Near the top left under the heading 'Go directly to' there is an option (about 3rd in the list) Show email options. Click on this.
We did not put these email addresses on your simple site because you would almost certainly get targeted for spam. Your store software on the other hand has built in method for helping to avoid it, almost completely. Click the New button as indicated below.
Here is how to fill in the form. You can see corresponding numbers for the instructions on the next image.
- Type 'admin' in this box (without quote marks).
- Type a password and then re type it underneath.
- Click this button and enter your regular email address. 1&1 will instantly forward all mail for admin@yoursite.whatever to this address.

Click OK and repeat the exercise for your personal email. I normally just use my first name.
At last it is time to start considering your options for a web store.
