Planning & theory of how to make money online

Planning for your business

“Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.”

Harold R. McAlindon

How to make money online without risking a fortune & without technical knowledge

Can there really be a risk-free, non-technical way for YOU to make money online?

It is true! Making money online does not have to have anything to do with technical know-how or financial investment.

So why do the 'secrets' of how to make money online appear so illusive?

I have just said that it does not have to have anything to do with technical ability or financial risk. So what is it? It is true that many technical boffins spend months failing. It is also true that some people spend a fortune and achieve nothing. So what is the 'secret' formula?

Specific steps to make money online

freedom

There are lots of misconceptions about how to make money online especially where the home business is concerned. For example, many believe that web sites that earn you money from home are only for the technically gifted. Certainly there are some aspects of the web which are very technical. But starting and running a profitable online business does not have to be a technical challenge. It can take about 10 minutes for ANYBODY to set up a functioning  home business web site with credit card processing and order management built in! So knowing this do you understand me when I say, you are your own success? You can have your own e-commerce store. No matter what your circumstances.

It is true that you need to know what to do before you can do it. It is also true that sometimes what to do is not always obviously apparent. However I honestly believe that if you take each stage of developing a home based web business individually, then there is no single task or topic that is beyond the comprehension of a very average, unqualified person.

Family on beach living the lifestyle they deserve

How can I say this? Simple, because I have done it. I have no qualifications and I am certainly not known for my intelligence! The only problem I had with my first online money making project was that there was loads of very tiny stumbling blocks. Dozens. On there own each problem was very easily and quickly surmountable.

Introduction to ecommerce

Welcome to D.I.Y E-commerce. Just a few years before I started putting together this web site, the idea of having my own business on the Internet was just a far off dream. When I opened my first web store it took 6 weeks of hard slog just to get it open and trading. It looked rubbish but it made money! Depending on your current technical level and of course how much work you do each week; you could take a longer or shorter time and have a slightly better or slightly worse end product.

The point is, you CAN have your own ecommerce store, very cheaply or for free, by following the guides on this web site or buying our guide and resource disc.

A comparison of a web business to conventional

Why open a web shop? Why not some other more conventional business?  If you aspire to a conventional business then that is what you should do. But first consider some comparisons of a conventional and web based business.

Expenses for a web business built professionally

But there must be expenses with a web business? Absolutely, yes there is. I got a few quotes from a local web design company. I asked them for a rough quote for a shop with 50 products, payment handling and some other basic features. The quote was 'from £9000 depending upon requirements and £40 per month hosting and maintenance '. Oh yes I forgot to mention, +VAT.

I will show you how to eliminate almost every expense and in some cases, depending on your specific business objectives, I will show you how to do it for free!

The old fashioned corner shop

I remember when I was a child. Going to the local corner shop for a quarter of cola cubes.  I would turn up and hand over my sweaty 50p and stare at the huge array of sweets in the jars behind the counter. I would always end up choosing the cola cubes though. The friendly man would thank me very much and say that he hoped I would enjoy my sweeties. I always did. I would regularly visit this wonderful establishment. Sometimes armed with money for football stickers or milk and sugar for mum. Occasionally if I was really lucky I would be treated to a lolly out of the freezer or a cake off of the shelf by the biscuits.

The modern day corner shop

What made the corner shops successful was convenience, product range and of course hard work by their owners. They were NOT the cheapest and they did NOT have the highest quality merchandise!

There is a new neighborhood and it is seriously lacking in quality retail outlets. It is of course the world wide web. But how can I say it is lacking in retail outlets, there are probably hundreds of thousands, maybe more? Yes there are lots of big stores out there and small niche stores on the web, Amazon, Ebay etc. But remember the corner shop analogy.

Don't give up the day job... Yet

As previously explained, your whole advantage over the big boys and possibly all the other people who will be selling the same products as you, is your almost non-existent overheads. But you are probably in the situation where you have personal outgoings, Bills, mortgage, debts etc.

How to find a product and a niche

Here are some ideas to try and find a product or range that inspires you. Of course it is great if you can sell stuff you are really interested in but don't let that interest get in the way of making the right product choices. It is much better to become a millionaire selling pooper scoopers than it is to be a broke idealist.

Product viability check

When you have worked through the above, you should be armed with cost prices and delivery charges etc. It is time to see if the market is viable for you. You need to research what price including any extras like P&P, VAT, and any other extras your competitors are selling it for. How quick do they deliver. Is it gift wrapped? Do they offer generous returns policy? What about their after sales service?
